So here are the remaining snippets from the other essay I graded at the AP History Reading inh Louisville. This question was the the dreaded DBQ or "Document based Question". Question required students to read ten documents concerning enslaved African-Americans and Free Blacks from 1775 through 1830 and asked them to compare and contrast their experiences while bringing in material from their course and other readings.
"Enslaved African Americans are the ones who are still not able to be deprived of their freedom." [That is a very post-modern definition of slavery, and I'm certain the intended point.]
"Whites and many colored believed in the 'positive good' of slavery." [They must have read this is Clarance Thomas's autobiography, or, after having read anything by Shelby Foote]
"Although many African-Americans gained freedom from slavery during 1775-1830, slavery was on a rapid growth due to the bad shape of the economy as a result of the Korean War." [yep, you read that right, sigh]
"As the economy slowed, owners didn't need require slaves to work as much and that caused them to eat more and fatten up." [need I say anything?]
"Some states enfranchised African-Americans to work on plantations, and other allowed them to live freely." [so they gave them the vote as slaves so they could work?]
My favorite of this batch, a close second to the Irish conspiracy of the first post:
"As demonstrated in document D, a group of Methodists are religiously exploiting their cultural adaption in the colonies." [It is a good thing Walter Benjamin is dead, because if he wasn't this might put him under]

So, be honest here: do they just tell you to mark everything at least a 3/5 (so mom and dad don't get pissed off) and move on?
